5 Herbal Tea Recipes for Winter



Winter is Kapha season. Which means we need not just more warm to counter the cold, but also herbs to stop Kapha tendencies like sluggishness and depression. These 5 different recipes hit all my needs. Honey can always be added at the end after the tea is brewed.


All recipes are 3 cups water and you can boil the herbs in the pot itself or put them in a tea strainer.


Stabilizing:

Great for indigestion, gas, congestion and stimulating agni (digestive fire). Often simply referred to as CCF.

  • 1/2 tsp: fennel seeds

  • 1/2 tsp: coriander seeds

  • 1/4-1/2 tsp: cumin seeds (cumin has a strong taste, so experiment!)


Cleansing:

Helps relieve phlegm stimulate agni, and provide energy

  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder (or 1 inch knob of ginger grated)

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (or 1 stick)

  • 1/4 tsp cloves

  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seed

  • pich black pepper


Anti-Inflammatory:

Helps circulation and strengthens the immune system

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (ground)

  • 1/2 tsp ginger (ground

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric (ground)

  • pinch black pepper

  • lemon juice to taste

Soothing:

Helps regulate nervous system

  • 1/4 tsp ginger (grated or powdered)

  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom

  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Invigorating:

Great as a digestive after meals

  • 1 inch knob of ginger chopped

  • 1 tsp fennel seeds

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
